Friends also mention that they think it would be hard to pull everything together. But friends, it really isn’t! If you have the tips, you can easily add this style to your home. Trust me!

7 Easy Tips to Add Farmhouse Style to Your Home

Tip 1: Bring in light and airy colors. A fresh coat of paint can go a long me! Take a look at my post on my office overhaul. Just changing the wall color dramatically changed the space ( My go to paint colors for walls are light grays, creams/off white, beige and tans. They never let me down! Also, you can easily bring in light and airy colors by the furniture pieces you use. Get dressers (or paint your pieces like we do) light colors like white, cream, and a light colored wood. You can also use very light colored curtains. With curtains you can buy ones that are very light in weight and sort of see through. These work perfect for a light and airy look! A very easy way to incorporate light and airy colors is to bring in decor pieces for shelves and such that are light in color.

Tip 2: Neutral color pallate. This goes along with tip 1. Keep everything very neutral. Light browns, tans, whites, creams, light grays, light greens and blues. If you like color you can easily kick up the look by adding color in you decorating as well (curtains, shelf decor, rugs, etc.)

Tip 3: Get antique and vintage items. For me, this is key! Farmhouse style is all about simple, natural, and to me a simpler way of life. I always thing of old when I think of farmhouse style. I have found to make the perfect farmhouse style you need antique and vintage items. These can be small things like something to add on a bookshelf. It doesn’t have to be anything drastic! Go check out the local antique or thrift store. You will be amazed at what you can find!

Tip 4: Add greenery. If you have noticed anything from my posts it is that I always add greenery and floral. It is a must! Like I have said, if you have pets or allergies, you can find absolutely gorgeous faux greenery and flowers that look so real. This takes the room up a notch. Brings life to the space. The space will look more airy and light.

Tip 5: Use metals, wood, and glass. To create a tied together look, you can’t go wrong with these 3 textures. They go together perfectly! A farmhouse is simple. Simple materials and textures make this style come together in full force. You can incorporate these textures in a variety of ways. Accent decor, mirrors, furniture, etc.

Tip 6: Use crisp, simple fabrics. I like to use curtains, pillows, rugs, and things to those degree in my decorating. I keep the farmhouse style by having these things look very simple. With my pillows, I keep the patterns limited. I want them to look simple. I love using the ticking stripe fabric, burlap, and grain sack. These are farmhouse musts! I also use natural fiber rugs. I love the jute rugs. These are simple and perfect. With my curtains, I keep them light and simple in pattern.

Tip 7: Finally, keep it simple! Farmhouse style is all about simplicity. A few key pieces of furniture and decor can go a long way!
